Inception and Development
The long cherished dream of the Apatani tribe of Ziro Valley to have a college in their area was fulfilled by the Claretians on 11August 2003 when the St Claret College was opened in Salaya, Ziro. The invitation to open a degree college at Ziro was from Mr. Padi Richo, the former Sports & Youth Affairs minister of the Arunachal Pradesh Government. The initial study about the feasibility of a college was done and the Congregation gave the consent for this endeavor. Frs. Tomy Edacherriparampil, Mathew Vandalakunnel and John Arackaparampil strived a lot to realise this dream.

Higher Education
True to their word the Claretians began the functioning of the college in August 2003 after having obtained permission from the Arunachal University.Located in the lush green pine tree backdrop of Ziro valley the College promises to be a great endeavor. Already the College has made news by organizing curricular and extra-curricular programmes. The College offers graduation in Arts stream and hopes to offer the same in the Science and Commerce streams in the coming years. Fr. Paulson Veliyannoor worked as the principal of the college from 2003-05. Since the location of the college is quite far away from the town, the college also provides hostel facilites for both boys and girls. Franciscan Sisters (F.C.C.) are entursted with the running of the girls hostel in the campus.

In the year 2005, the College stood in the first position among all colleges in Arunachal Pradesh with 85.2 % of marks.
