Inception and Development
Presentation Mission, Nonghyllam, situated in the West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya is the farthest and the most difficult of the Missions to reach in the Archdiocese of Shillong. It lies along the Indo - Bangladesh border.This Mission was started in 1992 at the invitation of Archbishop Hubert D’Rosario. It was bifurcated from the Salesian mission at Sonapahar and was handed over to the Claretians. The population of this parish belongs mainly to Khasi, Lingam and Garo tribes. Fr. Kuriakose Mundackatt was the pioneer Claretian of this Mission.

Pastoral Ministry
The Centre has about 39 Catholic villages with over 4000 Catholics. The Missionaries here lack proper conveyance and communication facilities. The parish is 170 kms away from Shillong City, which needs eight hours’ drive from the city. In the interior places there is a constant threat from militants, who are active in the area

              

Educational Apostolate
The Centre has a High School with about 300 students, there are boarding for both boys and girls and a dispensary. The parish also manages 13 village Lower Primary schools. In the mission, the MSMHC (Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians) Sisters, who manage the Girls’ boarding and run the dispensary work with the Missionaries.
The Mission involves in various rural developmental programs. The Construction of the parish church is one of immediate priorities of the Mission.
