Inception
and Development
Narasannapeta is one of the
mandal headquarters in Srikakulam, the north-eastern district
of Andhra Pradesh. Claret Bhavan is situated just two kilometers
outside the Narasannapeta town, and it is about 24 kilometers
away from the district headquarters of Srikakulam, beside
the Srikakulam–Palasa
section of National Highway.
People of the region are predominantly Hindus. They are
generally agriculturists who depend on monsoon for cultivations.
The meager Christian population of the region is further
divided into different denominations such as the Pentecostals,
the Baptists, the Word Mission Evangelical Church and the
Church of Christ besides the Catholics. Fr. Thomas Thekkevattakattu
was the pioneering missionary here. On 8 September 1998 the
Diocese raised Narasannapeta mission into parish under the
patronage of Infant Jesus.

Pastoral
Ministry
The Infant Jesus Parish of Narasannapeta has 29 families
with a total strength of 55 Catholics. Though numerically
very small, the parish covers a vast geographical area with
eight stations, which currently caters to around 50 catechumens.
The Missionaries now take up socio-economic developmental
projects in the area. We hope the committed efforts of the
missionaries here will help the growth and development of
the people in the locality.

Educational
Apostolate
Under the testing conditions of
the present day where missionary activities are looked at with
suspicion, one of the best ways to reach out to the people
is through educational services. At Narasannapeta, the Missionaries
have opted for a school as the region lacks quality educational
institutions. St Claret School started functioning in the academic
year 2002–03.
The building for the initial functioning of the school was
completed in June 2002 under the supervision of Fr. Mathew
Ezholithakadiel. Sri. Yeran Naidu, MP, inaugurated the school
on 30 June 2002 and it was blessed by Fr. James Kannanthanam,
the Vice-Provincial. Today, the school strives in providing
quality education and inculcating the values of the Gospel
in the children.
