Inception and Development
The Mawsynram mission in the Archdiocese was started in the year 1976. In 1993 the Claretians took it up at the request of His Grace, Hubert Rosario SDB. The people of the region are dominantly Khasis. Fr. Kuriakose Mundackatt was the first Claretian missionary to work in this place.

Pastoral Ministry
The parish consists of 27 villages with Khasi population. The number of catholic families is 333 with a strength of 2382 Catholics. Mawsynram is said to be the wettest place on earth since it receives the highest amount of rainfall in the world. Commendable pastoral and educational activities are being carried out in the place by the missionaries. The parish at Mawsynram caught media attention some years back due to a case of possession and exorcism. This led to a revival in the faith of the people of the parish and an increase in conversions.

Educational Apostolate
The Centre has a High School with about 200 students, there are boarding for both boys and girls and a dispensary. The parish also manages 7 village Lower Primary schools. In the mission, the MSMHC (Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians) Sisters, who manage the Girls’ boarding and run the dispensary, work with the Claretians.
The mission takes up various rural and social developmental programs for the integral development of the people.
