Origin and Development
At the request of Rt. Rev. Gerlad Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of Shimoga to work in his diocese, the Province of Bangalore has chosen Honnali Taluk for the evangelization and pastoral care. Two priests, Frs. Mathew Pottemparampil and Jerome D’souza reached the mission on 28 June 2003, on the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A rented house at Honnali was blessed on the next day, the feast day of SS Peter and Paul by Very Rev. Msgr. S R Peter, Vicar General of the Diocese of Shimoga and named it “Yesu Nilaya”.

Pastoral Ministry
Honnali Taluk has around 2,50,000 inhabitants, of whom only 30 are Catholics. Honnali is situated between the district headquarters of Davengere (40 Kms) and the diocesan headquarters of Shimoga (40 Kms). While the missionaries take care of the pastoral needs of the small catholic communtiy there, preparations are under way for socio-developmental projects in the area. In 2005 a plot of land has been purchased at Honnali for the construction of the residence for the missionaries and for other developmental activities. |
