Inception and Development
In 1988 Rt. Rev. Alphonse Mathias, the Archbishop of Bangalore entrusted St Peter’s Church, Doddaballapur to the Claretians. The Archdiocese of Bangalore invited for the Claretian involvement in the evangelization of the rural areas of Bangalore. Today, this mission consists of three different parishes, spread out in three taluks – Devanahalli, Doddaballapur and Nelamangala.

When the Claretians took up the mission in 1988, the area had only 17 Catholic families. Fr. Joseph Kudakuthyil, residing at Claretian Seminary served as the Priest-in-charge of the Centre for a while. Later, Fr. Joseph Moolakara began to stay at the Centre and was appointed the first parish priest of St Peter’s Church.

Pastoral Ministry
When the parish was entrusted there was no proper Church building for the gathering of the faithful. A small shed was used as the parish Church for over a decade. Later, under the initiative of Fr. Antony D’Souza the construction of the Church was completed. On April 7, 2002 the new Church was blessed and inaugurated by His Grace Ignatius Pinto, the Archbishop of Bangalore. And almost a year after the consecration of the new Church, a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was blessed. The Sisters of St Joseph of Lyons at Doddaballapur and the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany at Doddabalavangala assist the Missionaries in the parish activities and in the Mission.
