Inception and Development
The Claretians were invited to take up some missions in Arunachal Pradesh, by Most Rev. Robert Kerketta, the Bishop of Tezpur Diocese. In 1998, responding to his invitation, Frs. Tomy Edacherriparampil and Sebastian Odackal were sent to Arunachal Pradesh, to the Salesian missions of Palin and Yacuhli respectively. The initial months spent in these missions motivated the Missionaries to take up a Centre in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. |
Pastoral Ministry
In 1999, the Fathers moved to this Centre which is at a place called Boasimla, located at a distance of 45 kms from Ziro, the District headquarters of the Lower Subansiri district. The people of Nishi Tribe inhabit Boasimla, which is one of the biggest tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The Centre has many Catholic villages, the exact number of which cannot be specified since every year new villages are added to the existing ones. The Parish has over 5000 catholics.
The religious Sisters associated with the Missionaries are from the SABS (Adoration Sisters) Congregation. The Sisters run a dispensary, help in the school and the boarding and go for village visits. The Missionaries here go for village visits, to distant villages up to the borders of China, covering the whole distance on foot by crossing thick jungles and deep rivers through what one may safely call stripes of Bamboo (dilapidated hanging bridges). The response from the people is a very positive one.

Educational Apostolate
The Centre also opened a school, which provides value based education for over 250 children of the area and a boarding for about 100 students. The missionaries are also involved in various rural development programs.
