Inception and Development
Claret Nivas at Basuregady in the Archdiocese of Hyderabad is the third mission of the Claretians in the State of Andhra Pradesh. It is stuated 35 kms north of the state capital, Hyderabad. Rev. Frs. Joseph Madhavath and Joseph Perumaparampil pioneered the mission in the year 1982. Responding to a request from Most Rev. S. Arulappa, the Archbishop of Hyderabad, the Missionaries reached the region and purchased a property with a convenient house at Medchal and “Claret Nivas” was inaugurated on 7 July 1982

Pastoral Ministry
On March 01, 1983 Most Rev. S. Arulappa, Archbishop of Hyderabad erected Medchal Parish with two substations, viz., Sacred Heart Church, Basuregady and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Gnanapuram and entrusted it to the Claretians for the pastoral care and evangelization activities.

In 1984 the Missionaries took up a new mission station at Aliabad, nearly 15 kms away from Medchal. There are nearly 65 migrated Catholic families, who are working in various cotton mills at Aliabad. Today the parish, dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, has three substations and a quasi-parish with a toal strength of 250 families. Besides, hundreds of students and factory workers form

part of the Parish. In 2004, Medchal substation was raised to a quasi-parish with St. Joseph as its patron. The Missionaries strive to spread the Gospel through regular family visits, village camps, popular charismatic retreats, Marian devotions, catechism classes and youth animation. Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate, (Nirmala Sisters) collaborate with the missionaries in the pastoral and educational activites here.

Educational Apostolate

Apart from the pastoral activities, the missionaries felt that the place needed educational services. St Claret Telugu Medium Upper Primary School, Basuregady was opened in 1984 to cater to the poor rural students. This self-financed school has strength of 300 students now.

The St Claret English Medium School at Athvelly, Medchal was opened on 1 July1991. The absence of a quality school in the vicinity of 15 kms was one of the important reasons for the Claretians to begin this school. The first batch of the Students completed their SSC in the year 2000 with a hundred percent first class result. The school caters to over 1200 students.
